AFL Preliminary Finals Prediction 2013

Hawthorn vs Geelong

Hawthorn have been the form side in the competition this year. Beating all teams except the Cats. The Hawks have smashed almost every other side, and have played the better football. Geelong on the other hand, has been inconsistent – losing to average sides (eg Brisbane) but then backing up with great wins. Of course the Cats beat the Hawks both times this year. Losing to Fremantle put a real spanner into the works at the Cattery, but Hawks vs Geelong games are always fantastic. Geelong has won so many games in a row against the Hawks, it’s been fascinating. The Kennett Curse is powerful and runs deep. Even with new players, the Cats always seem to get the job done. This may be another sneaky outsider to make an upset in the finals this year. Geelong by 1 point.

Fremantle vs Sydney

Fremantle should be firm favourites for this match. Having travelled down to Geelong and beating the highly fancied Cats, the Dockers will be looking to take the next step towards a Grand Final spot. Standing in their way, are the Sydney Swans, and they are more than capable of defeating most teams. Having lost badly to the Hawks a fortnight ago, the Swans backed up last week with a solid win over the Blues. With a number of serious injuries to the Swans it’s going to prove a difficult game to win. Tippett looks to be gone, Goodes is out for the season, and with a couple of other niggles and players not 100%, it seems like it’ll be too tough for the Swans to win at Pattersons Stadium. Fremantle by 6 points.
