Aren’t they just adorable? Themed restaurants offer the perfect escape from reality, which can be the secret ingredient to a perfect meal. This little guy is a character from a popular series of books/animated TV show called the Moomins. Created by Swedish-Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson, the story is about a carefree family of fairy tale like creatures having adventures with various friends.

Now you can find them at Moomins Cafe in Tokyo and they’re more than willing to keep you company during your meal. One shall never dine alone again because at Moomin Cafe, they’ll seat you with a stuffed versions of the beloved cartoon character.

A Twitter user who goes by the name of Haru said she went to the restaurant and after taking her order, a friendly staff member asked if she didn’t mind, there was somebody who would like to sit with her and that somebody turned out to be the “Snork Maiden”, a stuffed animal figure from the Moomins, who the server brought out and placed in a chair next to her.

“The waitress had such a big smile on her face, I couldn’t say no”, Haru told RocketNews24. “But it was also so cute!”

Ever since that fateful day, other visitors have reported similar experiences. This has been a policy that was put in place since the cafe opened in 2003 but it has’t attracted much attention until now.

So, why stop at Moomin Cafe? The cafe also offers decor, food and drinks inspired by the Moomin franchise.

Even though it has been over twenty years since the series had broadcast its last episode, it is still extremely popular in Japan. The Moomin Cafe itself is a successful chain of stores managed by Benelic, which is the same company behind a retail outlet that stocks Studio Ghibli merchandise.

Dining with a stuffed animal is a sweet yet strange experience. I’m not sure if it’s depressing or uplifting but either way, it is very unique and original. With that said, this is not the first unorthodox idea that has spawned from the depths of Japan. Personally, I’d totally welcome an adorable hippopotamus as a dinning companion. They’re so cute! How can anyone say “no”?
