Everyone Can Go For A Run – But How Can You Stay Mentally Fit?

There’s a lot of emphasis put on keeping fit and healthy. But that can get stressful when you’re a full-time student.

Who has time to go to the gym every day?

It’s all about creating a balance for yourself to make sure you stay on top of it all, with uni and work and some form of social life, and maintain your health to be in tip top shape.

No-one needs to get the flu when you’ve got tons of assignments, deadlines and exams lined up in your calendar.

So even if you do find the time to hit the gym, go for a run, swim, cycle and be on time for yoga and Pilates, how can you stay mentally fit among the stress of uni life?

Staying mentally fit is like exercise; you need to move your mind like a muscle. Here are some healthy habits to keep you mentally fit!

  • Read often and read widely – go beyond the usual gossip filled magazines and swap them out for more mentally stimulating articles
  • Challenge your mind –  start and finish a puzzle, do some crossword puzzles or pick up playing chess
  • Talk it out – stay in touch with friends and check in with each other to make sure you’re not too overwhelmed
  • Make a mantra – having a daily mantra to motivate you throughout the day can keep you focused on what you want to achieve
  • Focus on the positives – every morning set yourself small manageable goals for you to reach every day
  • Mindful journal – at the end of the day in a designated journal, write down three things that went well today. This is my personal favourite!

I hope these tips can help motivate you to stimulate your mind – the most important muscle! Keep fit and healthy and keep calm whatever may come your way!
