If anyone had told Seth MacFarlane that he would be hosting this years Academy Awards, he wouldn’t have believed it. Many others would have laughed it off, considering the last hosting gig he had was Comedy Central’s Roast of Donald Trump. MacFarlane can be classy, as he proved in the commercials for the Oscars and during interviews.

The theme for this years award show is yet to be determined. There are many young nominees like 9 year old Quvenzhane Wallis, Silver Lining Playbook’s stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Return nominees like Daniel Day-Lewis, Joaquin Phoenix and Christoph Waltz join the list, all top contenders. The Golden Globe winners sometimes go on to be Oscar winners, so the question is – will that be so this year?

Even more anticipating for some than the winners is the red carpet fashion. What designer names and styles will grace the show this year? Alexander McQueen, Versace and Jimmy Choo are some of the possibilities, and hopefully Joan Rivers will approve.

IMDB.com and Cineplex magazine have the list of nominees, as well as some of their own predictions, red carpet photos from years before, do and don’t poses, and some neat facts about Seth MacFarlane. Even if you aren’t a regular awards show watcher, this year should be something different; an unpredictable host, incredible nominees, a Skyfall performance by Adele, and of course someone will take home Oscar gold. If the Oscars are anything like the Golden Globes were, prepare for laughs. Tina Fey and Amy Pohler gathered rave reviews for their hosting job in January. MacFarlane had a naughtier sense of humour than the ladies, so some Family Guy lines might come out.
The nominees and attendees all seem to have their favourites figured out, any guesses?

Cineplex magazine, February 2013 issue The 85th Annual Academy will be held on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Fingers crossed for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for its 3 nominations: Production Design, Makeup and Visual Effects!
