Due to some major upsets last week, our AFL Round 14 Prediction may be wildly incorrect!
West Coast vs Essendon.
A difficult game to pick. West Coast played well against Hawthorn last weekend, and weren’t far away from probably the stand-out team in the AFL at the moment. Essendon had the week off and have been playing well interstate. Not to mention they are in the top 4 at the moment. Having said that, Jobe Watson’s recent comments are sure to play on the minds of the team. Despite several injuries to key Eagles players (Shannon Hurn and Scott Selwood), they should get a win to give them some momentum for the rest of the season. West Coast by 12 points.
Sydney vs Carlton
Another great game this round. Sydney were beaten by Port Adelaide in one of the major surprises, and it seems the Swans aren’t performing as well as they were several weeks ago. Even with Kurt Tippett. Carlton have been quietly improving and it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if they got this game. Having said that, Sydney should be too strong at home. Sydney by 24 points.
Gold Coast vs Adelaide
It wasn’t long ago that Scott Thompson (Ade) racked up about 50 million possessions against the tiny Suns. How times change. Gold Coast are looking good and have been performing extraordinarily well, getting some good wins and pushing great sides far (Geelong and Hawthorn in recent weeks). It’s a little bit of a roughy, but Gold Coast by 8.
Port Adelaide vs Collingwood
WARNING: THIS MAY SHOCK YOU. Port Adelaide are in the top eight. They beat the reigning premiers Sydney last week. Watch out, because one can never tell what they will do. Collingwood always play well interstate and have been playing some reasonable football of late. Travis Cloke will monster Port Adelaide (provided the weather holds up), but it should be a good game nonetheless. Collingwood by 18 points.
Geelong vs Fremantle
The game of the round. Geelong having been defeated after the siren against Brisbane, will be wanting a sweet victory. Fremantle’s miserly defence lets only a small score in, so the contrasting styles will prove interesting. Fremantle are probably the form team at the moment, but the Cats are hurting after their shock loss. As this game is being played at Skilled Stadium, Geelong by 12 points.
Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs
Boring. They AFL may need to pay people to attend. Western Bulldogs by 12 points.
Hawthorn vs Brisbane
Hawthorn beat a gallant West Coast last week, and remain at the top of the ladder with a solitary loss. Brisbane defeated Geelong, and played well (at least for a quarter). Hawthorn by 60 points.
North Melbourne vs Greater Western Sydney
North Melbourne needs to win this game to keep any respect. Having lost so many games this season by under four points (I think about four games?), they need this win. MUST WIN. GWS have played well though, and if Jeremy Cameron gets a few opportunities, it might be close. North Melbourne by 42 points.
Richmond vs Saint Kilda
A good challenge for Richmond, with St Kilda playing good football recently. St Kilda beat Melbourne by 35 points last round. The Tigers have also played well, beating the Western Bulldogs by 60 points. Richmond by 24 points.
